| spa |

dc.description.abstractenglish | The aim of this essay is to discuss the influence on social interaction in public space of new technologies of information and communication. The main idea in this article is that social functions of public places are being transformed by mobile technologies of information, communi-cation, and surveillance devices. From mobile phones, the Wi-Fi, and the Closed-Circuit TV, the communication and the surveillance technologies are redefining human-environment relationships in the urban environment. Nevertheless, instead of seeing the new technologies of informa-tion and communication as responsible of the isolation of persons, it is recognized that those technologies are contributing to augment the public space dimensions and enhance the amount of social con-tacts for individuals. New technologies is something that we have to accept as a new advancement of society, however, have to be regulated in order to preserve the con-viviality, safety and the right to privacy in urban environments. | eng |
