Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze the elements that make up the experiences of teachers who carry out their work in rural areas and how these influence the construction of their identities to redefine their pedagogical place. In this sense, it constitutes a space for the creation of new ways of understanding the place of Rural Teachers. We understand the rural teacher as subjects with their historicity, as complex human beings who, in relation to their experiences, have built their own world visions and unique ways of being a teacher and of doing rural schooling and who, by virtue of this, can give testimony and contribute to the reflection of education in these contexts. Within this horizon, the voices of eight rural teachers from Colombia, from the departments of Cundinamarca, Boyacá and Meta, are situated through the Life Stories investigative approach, as an authentic possibility for their identity expression. The analysis carried out around their life narratives allowed us to identify different elements that are interwoven in their identity constructions, where experiences of childhood, rurality, school, teacher training, first work experiences and trajectories in rural teaching are combined, and feelings are revealed tensions, needs, and perspectives around Being a Rural Teacher. In a prospective view, it is proposed to create other spaces in the academic, research and pedagogical field to account for this polyphony of voices of rural teachers, and encourage their pedagogical-political positioning in the construction of education in rural areas.
