Hola.
Christian.
Abstract
Hello.
I confess that I am excited to have you here.
I hope you are reading this with the intention of inquiring into a vital need, digging into a personal question, going to the bottom of some deep desire that you cannot get out of your head or heart, even if you don't know what it is. I would like it to be so because this whole project was about that from the beginning: to investigate a deep and personal need, strong enough to mobilize me to investigate something, to create.
These are the letters that I wrote to you as part of the processual record of my research-creation project entitled: This, perhaps, is in motion. A staging/exhibition/performance/monologue/sharing/video installation/podcast/conversation/monument in movement/performative conference/gathering that places different questions in tension around what we can understand as movement.
These letters are the memory of what I experienced during this creative process. A dialogue with different authors that I found along the way. An attempt to contaminate institutional requirements with poetry. A way to keep track of a research-creation while maintaining its intimate and auto-ethnographic character.
From the creation of different artistic materialities (video, sound, dramaturgy, photography and body scores) I inquired into my life story trying to recognize the relationship between my work as an artist, as a teacher and as a dissident of the hetero norm. I wanted to find questions that I could put into dialogue with society, solitudes that by sharing them would allow other people to make their own interpretation of the world.
Let me clarify that these letters are not the result of my research process, but rather a witness, a way of keeping a record and reflecting on it. The staging is the central "product" of the knowledge obtained during this investigation, and only by being in it, you could see the full picture of this process. This reveals a problem regarding the registration of research-creation processes within our university, but that is the subject of another dissertation. To try to make up for this absence in some way, I attach to the end of the letters the dramaturgy of the staging, which is still not the artistic production itself, but at least gives you an idea of a great part of the creative structure.
I hope you manage to find something that awakens your creative hunger, and I hope that your next project has as much passion as conceptual references.
With love,
Christian.
