Abstract
This work is dedicated to the analysis of the notion of consciousness from the philosophical perspectives of the sāṃkhya school, as expressed in the text of the classical period, Sāṃkhyakārikā. The aim is to delve into this Indian theory in a discussion about the nature of consciousness, emphasizing individual experience. In order to address the question: What is the stance of the sāṃkhya school regarding the relationship between the investigation of the nature of the mind and the problem of how to live? Three clues are presented that are developed throughout the work: 1) investigating and understanding the nature of the mind is essential for liberation; 2) the understanding of the nature of the mind is approached from the first-person perspective; 3) this perspective cannot be reduced to the third person.
